As we get closer to the 2026 midterm elections, Democrats in Washington, D.C. are getting bolder.
That’s why almost 225 Democrats in Congress have signed on as co-sponsors of the so-called “Assault Weapons Ban” of 2026 (S.1531/H.R.3115).
If that sounds familiar, it should.
This bill would essentially take Washington State’s gun ban and extend it across the entire country.
In other words, the same type of gun control we’ve been battling here in Olympia would suddenly become federal law nationwide. There would be no place to go to escape this.
And the consequences would be massive.
Under this legislation, it would become a federal felony to buy an AR-15 or a standard 30-round magazine.
OPPOSE THE FEDERAL ‘ASSAULT WEAPONS’ BAN!
That’s not a small change to federal law. That’s a direct attack on the most common firearm in the country.
Estimates suggest there are over 30 million AR-15 rifles already in circulation in America today. Millions of law-abiding citizens own them. That would end under this bill.
To be clear, this bill has nothing to do with stopping crime.
Nothing.
Criminals don’t follow gun laws. They never have, and they never will. We see that on the news every single day here, despite all of Washington State’s gun control laws.
The real goal of this legislation is much simpler: disarm the political opponents of the Left.
A lot of gun organizations get nervous saying that out loud, preferring to frame the debate strictly around hunting, sport shooting, or home defense.
That’s just weak.
Yes, the AR-15 is a fantastic rifle for target shooting.
Yes, many Americans rely on it for self-defense.
And yes, plenty of people use it for hunting.
But that’s not the reason the Founders protected the right to keep and bear arms in the Constitution.
At its core, the Second Amendment exists to ensure that the American people retain the tools necessary to keep our own government in check.
The politicians in Washington know that. That’s why they want to ban these rifles…so they can grind their heels into our backs.

If America loses the right to own these rifles, it will mean our government has all the power, and we’ll be powerless to stop them.
